I started
walking to Rome on July 13, 2001, and arrived on October 12th, in
aid of homeless people and refugees in Britain, France, Belgium,
and Italy.
Now all that is left is for your support. If you would like to make
a small
donation or sponsor the walk, or for any other information,
please press the relevant link from the link menu to the left.
The idea for the walk came about because I wanted to do something
useful and active when I retired in 2001. I decided to walk to Rome.
I read "The Path to Rome" by Hilaire
Belloc when I was 10 years old, and my ambition to walk
there was born. It was reinforced when I went to Rome in 1950 with
the Boy Scouts and spent six hours without a drink moving slowly
in a train through the hot Italian countryside. Walking to Rome
must be a joyful way to retire at 65 years of age, in the good company
of family and friends, and for the sake of charity.
I have raised promises of over £21,000 for the charities:
I will post another estimate of what came in towards the end of
January 2002. |
